Once it is connected

“Log today's workout: bench three sets of eight at 185, then tell me where my streak stands.”

Logged, and the volume is on your board. Your weekly streak is safe, and the session is already counting toward every kontest you are in.

Setup in Claude

One URL. Four steps. About a minute.

Here is the whole thing, start to finish, in Claude. The same four steps apply on desktop and on the web. ChatGPT and Gemini are just below.

Connecting kontest to Claude 30 seconds, no sound Interface shown for illustration

Open Connectors in Claude settings

In Claude, go to Settings and open the Connectors section. This is where Claude keeps every outside service it can reach.

Add a custom connector

Choose Add custom connector. Name it kontest, paste https://mcp.thekontest.com/mcp as the remote MCP server URL, and press Add. Leave the advanced OAuth fields empty. kontest does not need them.

Sign in with your kontest account

Press Connect and a browser window opens on kontest. Sign in exactly the way you sign in to the app, with your email and password or with Apple, then approve the access kontest lists. The window closes itself and Claude shows the connector as connected.

Ask for what you want

Start a chat and talk normally. Ask Claude to log the session you just finished, pull your bench numbers for the year, or set up a three-week kontest with your friends.

Other assistants

The same URL in ChatGPT and Gemini.

Both take remote MCP servers too. Only the settings screen changes, and the sign-in still happens in your browser on kontest.

ChatGPT

Web and desktop · about a minute

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors. Click your name in the bottom corner, choose Settings, and open the Connectors section.
  2. Turn on developer mode. Scroll to Advanced inside Connectors and switch on developer mode. This is what lets ChatGPT take a custom MCP server.
  3. Choose Create. Go back to Connectors. There is now a Create button for adding your own.
  4. Fill in the two fields. Name it kontest and paste https://mcp.thekontest.com/mcp as the MCP server URL. Leave authentication set to OAuth.
  5. Confirm and create. Tick the box saying you trust the provider, press Create, and sign in to kontest in the browser window that opens.
  6. Switch it on in a chat. Open the developer mode menu in the composer and enable kontest for that conversation, then ask away.

Custom connectors are a paid ChatGPT plan feature. If you do not see Advanced under Connectors, check your plan.

Gemini

gemini.google.com · about a minute

  1. Open Settings and help. Go to gemini.google.com and open Settings and help from the menu.
  2. Go to Connected apps. Choose Connected apps. If you do not see it straight away, open Personal intelligence first and it is in there.
  3. Add a custom app. Find the custom apps section and choose Add a custom app.
  4. Paste the URL. Enter https://mcp.thekontest.com/mcp as the MCP server URL and press Next. Leave the advanced credential fields alone.
  5. Sign in to kontest. A browser window opens on kontest. Sign in the way you always do and approve the access it lists.
  6. Just ask. Start a chat and ask about your training. Gemini picks the right kontest tools on its own.

Custom apps are rolling out gradually on personal Google accounts, and availability varies by region and language.

Using something else? Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP works with the same URL, including Claude Code, Cursor, and the Gemini CLI. Point it at https://mcp.thekontest.com/mcp and sign in when the browser window opens.

What to ask

Talk to it like a training partner who keeps the records.

Real requests, and the tools that answer them behind the scenes.

“Log yesterday's session: squat five sets of five at 275, then show me how much leg volume I have done this month.”

log_workout · get_muscle_focus_breakdown

“What is my bench press record this year, and how far off it am I right now?”

get_personal_records · get_workout_history

“Set up a three-week kontest with my friends, five workouts a week, and invite everyone on my list.”

list_friends · create_kontest

“I had two eggs, oatmeal, and a protein shake. Where does that leave me for the day?”

log_meal · get_nutrition_summary

“Slept five hours and feel wrecked. Log it, then give me something lighter than what I had planned.”

log_sleep_quality · get_workout_history

“Which muscle groups have I been neglecting for the last 30 days?”

get_muscle_focus_breakdown · get_my_stats

Access and control

Your data, on your terms.

The connection is scoped to one account, yours, and you can cut it at any time. There is no key to leak and nothing to configure beyond signing in.

You sign in, not a key

You authorize the connection from your kontest account, signed in the same way you sign in to the app: email and password, or Apple. There is no API key to paste into a config file or leave sitting in a repo.

Scoped to your account

Every tool reads and writes as you. Other athletes' logs stay theirs, and your existing privacy settings still apply.

Approve before it acts

Your client asks before it runs a tool that changes something. Logging a workout or joining a kontest happens because you said yes.

Revoke in one move

Remove the connector in your client, or turn it off for a single chat. Access ends immediately either way.

Before you connect

Questions worth answering first.

01What is MCP, in plain terms?

Model Context Protocol is an open standard for letting an AI assistant talk to an outside service. The kontest MCP server is the endpoint your assistant connects to. You paste one URL, sign in, and it learns which kontest actions it is allowed to take. Nothing else to install.

02Do I need to write code?

No, not in any of the three. You paste the server URL into a settings screen and that is the whole setup: Connectors in Claude, Connectors in ChatGPT, Connected apps in Gemini. Nothing to install, nothing to configure.

03Which apps can I use it with?

Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, plus any other client that speaks MCP over HTTP. The server does not care which one you use, and more apps keep adding support.

04Does it cost anything?

The kontest MCP server is included with your account at no charge, the same as logging and competing. Custom connectors tend to be a paid-plan feature in Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, so if you do not see the option, check which plan you are on there.

05Can it change my data, or only read it?

Both, and that is the useful part. It can log workouts, log meals, set your macro targets, and create or join kontests. Your assistant asks for permission before it runs one of those tools, and repeated identical logs are deduplicated so a retry will not double-count your session.

06How do I disconnect it?

Remove the connector in that app's settings and the access token stops working right away. You can also leave it connected and switch it off for a single conversation when you would rather keep that chat to yourself.

Building something on top of the kontest MCP server, or want a tool that is not in the list yet? Tell me what you are trying to do and I will look at adding it. I read every message myself.
